👋 Hi, I’m Aamir Haroon.
I am a Senior Cloud Architect and Lead Database Engineer. For 20+ years, I have specialized in architecting resilient cloud infrastructure, optimizing complex database workloads, and migrating mission-critical data systems across Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, and on-premises environments.
My core expertise centers on enterprise and open-source database engines—principally PostgreSQL, Oracle (Active Data Guard, RAC, OEM Cloud Control), and SQL Server—with a heavy focus on high availability, performance tuning, and automation.
🛠️ What I Do & What I Build
Beyond database internals, I design and deploy full-stack, data-driven applications. I run BZS Commerce LLC to deliver cloud data consulting, and I actively build and maintain software tools that turn complex data into simple solutions:
- ⚡️ WattPal — A specialized energy analysis application that parses Smart Meter Texas interval data to evaluate retail electricity plans.
- 🏠 ProtestPal — A property tax analytics tool that processes county appraisal data across Texas.
- 🖋️ Al-Muallim — An AI-driven academic learning and guidance assistant.
📜 Certifications & Continuous Learning
I believe in validating real-world experience against rigorous engineering standards. A few milestones:
- Google Cloud Professional Cloud Database Engineer
- AWS Certified Database – Specialty
- AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate
🧰 Why “The Database Handyman”?
Complex data systems break in subtle, non-obvious ways—from replication slot lag and sub-optimal execution plans to cloud network latency. I started this blog as a digital workbench: a place to document hands-on fixes, configuration notes, and hard-earned production lessons across PostgreSQL, Oracle, and modern cloud architecture.
